BSL License Compliance
Legal commercial use under Business Source License terms
About the BSL License
Business Source License 1.1
Lamco RDP Server is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1. The Community Edition (Flatpak, Snap) is free to use under the Additional Use Grant — including for commercial purposes. Native packages are free for single-server deployments and non-profits. Multi-server native deployments require a commercial license.
Open Source Conversion
On December 31, 2028, Lamco RDP Server automatically converts to the Apache License 2.0. After this date, no commercial license is required by anyone.
Community Edition
The Community Edition designation applies to sandboxed distributions (Flatpak, Snap) published by Lamco Development. These are free to use under the Additional Use Grant in the BUSL-1.1 license. The Competitive Use restriction still applies.
Non-Competitive Use Restriction
All use (free or commercial) is subject to a non-competitive restriction: you may not use Lamco RDP Server to create a competing RDP server product or VDI solution. Using it for managed services, cloud hosting, or internal IT infrastructure is permitted.
Support Development
Even if you don't need a commercial license, you can support ongoing development of Lamco RDP Server and the lamco-* open source crates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a license?
Not if you're using the Community Edition (Flatpak or Snap) — it's free for any use including commercial. For native packages, a single server instance is free. A commercial license is only required for multi-server native deployments.
What counts as a server?
Each installation of Lamco RDP Server on a distinct machine or VM. Development, testing, and staging environments don't count—only production use.
What if I need more than one server?
Purchase a commercial license when you need to deploy on more than one server instance. The Team plan covers up to 5 servers at $149/year.
Can I upgrade my license later?
Yes. Contact us at office@lamco.io to apply your previous purchase toward an upgrade.
What happens after December 31, 2028?
The software becomes Apache-2.0 licensed. No commercial license is required by anyone after that date. The software simply becomes free for everyone.
Is there a trial period?
The software is fully functional without a license for evaluation. If you need a commercial license, we recommend testing thoroughly before purchasing.
