Privacy Policy for WiFi Intelligence

Effective Date: December 3, 2025 | Last Updated: December 3, 2025

Our Privacy Promise

WiFi Intelligence is a professional WiFi analysis tool that helps you understand your network's security and performance. We take your privacy seriously.

The most important thing to know: All WiFi network data, GPS coordinates, and technical measurements stay 100% on your device. We don't have servers. We don't collect your WiFi data. The app analyzes networks locally and stores everything in a local database on your phone.

Contact Information:

1. Information We Collect

1.1 WiFi Network Technical Data

What We Collect:

  • Network names (SSIDs) and access point addresses (BSSIDs)
  • Signal strength measurements (RSSI in dBm)
  • WiFi channel, frequency, and bandwidth
  • Security settings (WPA3, WPA2, encryption type)
  • Network capabilities (WiFi generation, MIMO, OFDMA support)
  • Technical characteristics of network packets (timing, signal quality)

How We Collect It:

  • Active Scanning: When you tap "Scan" in the app
  • Passive Monitoring: On Android 10+, the app listens to WiFi scan results from ANY source (system scans, Google Location Services, other apps)

Important: We collect network characteristics, NOT actual data packets or payload content. We measure signal strength, network configuration, and packet timing - not your internet traffic, browsing data, or packet contents.

Where It Goes: Your device ONLY

  • Stored in local database (Room/SQLite)
  • Never transmitted to our servers (we don't have any!)
  • Never sent to third parties
  • Retention: 7 days (free), 90 days (Pro Consumer), 1 year (Pro Engineer)

What We DON'T Get:

  • WiFi passwords (Android doesn't allow apps to access them)
  • Your internet traffic or browsing data
  • Data packet contents or payloads
  • Network traffic from other devices
  • Websites you visit or data you send/receive over WiFi

1.2 Location Data (GPS)

What We Collect:

  • GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude)
  • Altitude and accuracy
  • Compass heading, speed, step count
  • Barometer-based elevation (floor detection)

Android Requirement: Android requires location permission to scan WiFi networks. This is an Android system requirement, not our choice.

Our Use: For users who choose to use walk tests and site surveys:

  • Tag WiFi measurements with GPS coordinates
  • Generate coverage heatmaps
  • Detect floor changes in multi-story buildings
  • Track roaming between access points

Important: Location is ONLY collected during walk tests when you actively choose to use this feature.

Where It Goes: Your device ONLY

  • Stored in local database
  • Never transmitted to our servers
  • Never sent to third parties (except approximate location via IP to ad networks - see Advertising section)

1.3 Device Information

What We Collect:

  • Device model (e.g., "Pixel 8", "Galaxy S23")
  • Android version (e.g., "Android 14")
  • Android ID (for ad serving - free tier only)

Why We Need This:

  • Device model/Android version: Different devices have different WiFi chips. We use this for RF calibration (distance estimation accuracy).
  • Android ID: Required by Unity LevelPlay ad network for user identification and frequency capping.

1.4 App Usage Analytics (Firebase)

What We Collect via Firebase Analytics:

  • Which features you use (walk tests, guides, diagnostics)
  • WiFi scan events (how many networks found, WPA3 count)
  • Crash reports and error logs
  • Session duration, screen views

Firebase Automatically Collects:

  • Device model, OS version
  • Country (inferred from IP address, not precise location)
  • Language, time zone
  • App version

Where It Goes: Google Firebase servers (encrypted)

Your Control: You can disable analytics in Settings → "Help Improve WiFi Intelligence" toggle

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1 Local Analysis Only

All WiFi and GPS data is processed locally on your device:

  • Security analysis (WPA3 detection, vulnerability warnings)
  • Signal quality assessment (SNR, interference, jitter)
  • Coverage mapping (heatmaps from GPS-tagged measurements)
  • Performance diagnostics (latency, congestion analysis)

No Cloud Processing: Your WiFi networks, SSIDs, BSSIDs, and GPS coordinates never leave your device.

2.2 Analytics for App Improvement

Firebase Analytics (Optional - you can opt-out):

  • Understand feature usage (which features are popular)
  • Fix crashes (Crashlytics reports help us debug)
  • Improve user experience

Anonymized: Analytics don't contain your name, email, or personal identity.

2.3 Advertising (Free Tier Only)

Who This Applies To:

  • Free tier users (with ads)
  • Trial users (3-day trial includes ads)

Who This Doesn't Apply To:

  • Pro subscribers (no ads = no data to ad networks)
  • Rewarded access users (during 24-hour premium period)

What Ad Networks Collect:

Unity LevelPlay

  • Android ID (device identifier)
  • IP address (approximate location for geo-targeted ads)
  • Ad interactions (views, clicks, video completion)
  • Device model, OS version
  • Privacy Policy: unity.com/legal/privacy-policy

Google AdMob

  • Advertising ID (can be reset)
  • IP address (approximate location)
  • Ad interactions
  • Device information
  • Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy

Important: Ad networks collect approximate location via IP address (city/region level), NOT your precise GPS coordinates. Your GPS data never leaves your device.

Your Control:

  • Opt-out of personalized ads (Android Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of personalization)
  • Reset Advertising ID (Android Settings → Google → Ads → Reset)
  • Upgrade to Pro = no ads = no data to ad networks
